The conviction of a man of vision
The REVIE Foundation was born out of a conviction, that of a man from a very modest family, for whom poverty is not inevitable: “Poverty is not a lack of resources but a lack of vision and an adequate strategy”. Convinced of this, a telecommunication engineer Salam A. OUEDRAOGO devotes his ideas, his financial and material resources, his time and his efforts to promoting entrepreneurship for the benefit of the youth and women. A Burkinabe national, he firmly believes in the future of his country, Burkina Faso, which is made up of a majority of young people; young men and women who are an asset for the development of the country. If their capacity to produce wealth is valued and if they are properly supported, these young men and women can not only be very active players in the country’s economy but also consumers with purchasing capacity.
From a conviction to a concrete achievement
The REVIE Foundation was thus created in 2015. Relying on the general conditions of a landlocked country: Burkina Faso, vulnerable to climate change, particularly due to rainfall variations, and also dependent on the fluctuations of global market for the exportation of its products, the returns of which is rather low. The REVIE Foundation advocates that economic and social development will happen through the most significant portion of the population, namely young people aged from 15 to 35 and women. Indeed, the unemployment rate is estimated at 6.6% of the active population of age15 and over in Burkina Faso, according to the results of a multi-sectoral survey published in early January 2018. This rate is of 8.6% among young people aged 15 to 24. It is even higher among young girls (30%), according to the study. However, this portion of the population can make a significant contribution, through the production of marketable and innovative goods and services, thus contributing to the growth of the national economy.
This could be achieved through the exploitation of national, sub-regional and international trade exchanges.
A proven philosophy
“Poverty is not a lack of resources but a lack of vision, a lack of adequate strategy;
“Money is not a means to produce value but an outcome when value is created.”
“Man does not create matter: it is available in nature and it is free. »
“Unprocessed material is useless, even hazardous. »
“Man creates value out of matter. To create is simply to transform into a value of great utility.
“Man himself responds to this reality. The untransformed Man is “useless”, even dangerous: vile man or vain man.”
“Man can by a process of appropriate transformation permanently reach a state of high value and great utility: from vile to valuable. »
It is true that Burkina Faso has been receiving external aid from developed countries since its independence, but this “aid” should come mainly from within, that is through the gathering of endogenous resources, which should happend through flexible mechanisms, including collective donations from “successful” individuals who can contribute their financial and technical resources, as well as their ideas and ideals to support young people and women who are willing and committed to succeed as well. This will increase production, purchasing power, and thus contribute in the development and economic growth of the country. Based on this observation, the REVIE Foundation, which is a non-profit organization, works for the development of women and young people, so that, through them, the country can truly be developed .
